Methods of Overcut Compensation

The aim of the overcut compensation is to optimize the cutting quality. With the following methods an optimum cutting result for the respective material is achieved.

The cutting paths are optimized by the Plot Manager depending on tool, material type and thickness. Specific driver parameters ensure that the objects are cut optimized.

Note: The job preparation with subsequent optimization methods is also possible with OptiScout Prepare. The output can be done with Front-End or Production.

I. Tangential Oscillating Knife

Materials:

Cardboard, Folding Carton, Paper, Magnetic Foil, Foam, Sealing Material

Practice:

  1. Selection of the tool to match material type and thickness
  2. Definition of matching overcut compensation in the device driver
  3. The inner angles are handled here as follows:
The tangential oscillating knife is lifted in accordance with the driver values from the material and then rotated by 180 °. The cutting path is traced in the opposite direction. (see animation)

This compensation method ensures that the object material is not damaged.

II. Rotating Circular Blade

Materials:

Cloth, Fabric, Carbon Fiber, Felt, Glass Fiber, Leather Skin, Nylon

Practice:

  1. Selection of the tool to match material type and thickness
  2. Definition of matching overcut compensation in the device driver (positive or negative)
  3. Case 1 - Positive Compensation (Compensation with Undercut):

A positive value will prevent that the object material will not be damaged during immersion even when retracting, i.e. is not cut too far. (see animation part 1)

  4. Case 2 - Negative Compensation (Compensation with Overcut):

A negative value will prevent that the object material will be damaged at the inner angles . The surrounding material plays no role in this method. (see animation part 2)
